{"id":355349,"date":"2026-05-18T04:07:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T03:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=355349"},"modified":"2026-05-17T20:25:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T19:25:36","slug":"fg-intensifies-efforts-to-reposition-tourism-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=355349","title":{"rendered":"FG Intensifies Efforts To Reposition Tourism Sector\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\":q8\" class=\"ii gt\">\n<div id=\":q1\" class=\"a3s aiL \">\n<div id=\"avWBGd-225\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Federal Government has intensified efforts towards reposition Nigeria\u2019s hospitality and tourism industry for global competitiveness, aimed at strengthening regulation, professionalism and workforce standards across the sector.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This was made known last week when the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) conferred\u00a0 fellowships, inducted professionals and inaugurated the governing boards of the Hospitality and Tourism Sector Skills Council of Nigeria (HTSSCN) in Abuja.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The high-profile event, held at Merit House, Maitama, drew senior government officials, regulators, tourism operators, cultural institutions, hospitality investors and development partners in what stakeholders described as a major institutional shift .<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Government also formally inducted registered practitioners into various professional categories while also inaugurating the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of the HTSSCN, an employer-led platform designed to align workforce competencies with industry expectations.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Speaking at the event, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, said the initiative represented a strategic intervention to strengthen accountability, standards and institutional coordination within Nigeria\u2019s tourism and hospitality ecosystem.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the minister, Nigeria\u2019s vast cultural assets, tourism destinations and creative talents can only translate into sustainable economic value through professionalism, regulation and globally accepted operational standards.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">She noted that tourism and hospitality industry remains one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, contributing significantly to employment generation, foreign exchange earnings and cultural diplomacy.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Musawa explained\u00a0 that NIHOTOUR Establishment Act has expanded the institute\u2019s mandate beyond training, positioning it as a regulatory and certification authority for hospitality, tourism and travel practitioners in the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cNo sector can attain sustainable growth without structure, standards, institutional coordination and skilled professionals,\u201d she said, stressing the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies, operators, training institutions and private sector stakeholders.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In his keynote address, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIHOTOUR, Abisoye Fagade, described the event as a historic turning point in the formalisation of Nigeria\u2019s tourism and hospitality industry.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Fagade said the induction of practitioners, conferment of fellowships and inauguration of the HTSSCN governing boards marked the beginning of a new era of institutional governance, professional recognition and sector-wide coordination.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cRegulation and standardisation are no longer optional; they are economic necessities if Nigeria truly intends to compete globally,\u201d he stated.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">By: \u00a0Nkpemenyie Mcdominic, Lagos<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"avWBGd-226\" class=\"WhmR8e\" data-hash=\"0\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has intensified efforts towards reposition Nigeria\u2019s hospitality and tourism industry for global competitiveness, aimed at strengthening regulation, professionalism and workforce standards across the sector.
