{"id":354176,"date":"2026-03-30T03:41:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T02:41:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=354176"},"modified":"2026-03-29T22:14:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T21:14:09","slug":"tinubu-approves-expansion-of-picng-mandate-to-include-evs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=354176","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu approves expansion of PiCNG mandate to include EVs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to include electric vehicles (EVs).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">With the approval, the initiative will now be known as the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PiCNG &amp; EV).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The expanded mandate positions PiCNG &amp; EV to lead and coordinate Nigeria\u2019s clean mobility strategy, covering both gas-powered and electric vehicles nationwide.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The initiative will continue to drive the deployment of CNG infrastructure, including Mother and Daughter Stations, Integrated Refuelling Units, and nationwide vehicle conversion programmes.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It will also oversee the rollout of electric vehicles, EV charging infrastructure, and related investments across the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Onanuga noted that gas remains a competitive and strategic fuel for transportation, leveraging Nigeria\u2019s abundant resources to reduce costs and enhance energy security.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the presidential spokesperson, the inclusion of EVs further strengthens the government\u2019s agenda for affordable, efficient, and environmentally responsible mobility.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Tinubu also directed the Executive Chairman of PiCNG &amp; EV, Ismaeel Ahmed, to immediately establish a coordinated process for the rapid deployment of vehicle conversion kits nationwide.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The president said the kits must be made accessible to Nigerians at affordable and non-burdensome costs.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The goal, according to Onanuga, is to ensure that vehicle conversions are widely accessible to the public.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Tinubu further directed the accelerated deployment of Mobile Refuelling Units (MRUs) to expand access to CNG infrastructure while permanent facilities are being developed.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The initiative is expected to play a central role in Nigeria\u2019s transition to cleaner and more sustainable transportation systems.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to include electric vehicles (EVs).
