{"id":349912,"date":"2025-11-18T19:13:29","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T18:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=349912"},"modified":"2025-11-18T19:13:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T18:13:29","slug":"nigcomsat-expands-nigerias-digital-broadcast-subsector-by-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=349912","title":{"rendered":"NIGCOMSAT Expands Nigeria\u2019s Digital Broadcast Subsector By 35%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited says the country\u2019s digital broadcast subsector\u00a0 has expanded by 35 per cent to 75 per cent utilisation in two years.<br \/>\nThis, it said, represented a milestone in the country\u2019s digital transformation drive.<br \/>\nThe Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT, Mrs Jane Egerton-Idehen, made the remark\u00a0 at a retreat with the theme: \u2018Aligning for the Future: Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainable Growth\u201d, in Abuja, Monday.<br \/>\nAccording to her the theme reflects NIGCOMSAT\u2019s commitment to driving Nigeria\u2019s digital transformation and positioning itself as a global satellite industry leader.<br \/>\nShe said one of the notable achievements in its broadcast segment was the Digital Switch Over (DSO) project, describing it as not just a technical milestone but also a national service.<br \/>\n\u201cThis growth is a testament to the organization\u2019s improved service delivery and stronger engagement with partners and clients.<br \/>\n\u201cThe DSO project, a collaborative effort with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), is a key milestone in Nigeria\u2019s digital transformation.<br \/>\n\u201cNIGCOMSAT\u2019s contribution to the project is enabling digital broadcasting penetration across the federation, cementing the organisation\u2019s position at the centre of Nigeria\u2019s digital transformation,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nEgerton-Idehen said the achievements were expected to drive revenue growth, with target of three billion naira in annual revenue and eight billion naira in revenue within three years adding that the organisation\u2019s expansion of broadband services and private sector partnership was key to achieving the goals.<br \/>\n\u201cWe cannot move boldly into the future without addressing the weight of the past. Our debt profile \u2014 both financial and operational \u2014 is a reality we must confront with strategy, discipline, and creativity.<br \/>\n\u201cThese are our headwinds. We acknowledge them openly because honesty is the first step toward transformation.,\u201d Egerton-Idehen said.<br \/>\nShe said in spite of challenges such as economic barriers and competition, the organisation remained optimistic about the future.<br \/>\n\u201cWe must out-innovate the market, deepen partnerships, and build a culture of solution-focused, profit-driven, and people-centered excellence.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe key initiatives include transitioning to software-defined satellites, expanding broadband services, and the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator for the Space Ecosystem.<br \/>\n\u201cThe organisation is prioritising public-private partnerships, branding, and communication, as well as investing in its people,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nThe Chief Executive Officer, Data Science Nigeria, Olubayo Adekanbi, said satellite-based economy could revolutionise key sectors such as agriculture, health, and education, creating new job opportunities and increasing productivity.<br \/>\n\u201cBy providing internet access to remote areas, satellite technology can bridge the digital divide and ensure no one is left behind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited says the country\u2019s digital broadcast subsector\u00a0 has expanded by 35 per cent to 75 per cent utilisation in two years.
