{"id":349334,"date":"2025-11-03T01:50:40","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T00:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=349334"},"modified":"2025-11-02T17:57:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T16:57:11","slug":"stakeholders-advocate-water-transport-to-decongest-road-transportation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=349334","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholders Advocate Water Transport To Decongest Road Transportation\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Transport experts and stakeholders have called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency pay attention to other modes of transportation, especially water transportation to decongest and lessen the pressure on the roads<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The stakeholders who converged at the maiden Transport Summit organised by Just Alive Communications Limited, last Thursday, urged the Federal Government to create enabling environment to drive private sector investment in inland water transport, indigenous shipping, domestic airlines and in railway.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Professor of Transport Logistics at the Lagos State University, Prof. Bamidele Badejo, who made the call while delivering the\u00a0 Keynote Address titled, &#8216;The Future of Transportation in Nigeria: Trends, Challenges, Opportunities and the Way Forward&#8217;, said: \u201cWater transport remained critical in reducing road congestion.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Prof Badejo, known for his strong stance against government\u2019s tendency to engage people who are \u201cqualified by experience (QBE),\u201d insisted that \u201cgovernment must effectively separate politics from the transport sector and allow competent professionals to become heads of agencies in the transportation sector.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThe Federal Government must drive transport sector development through creation and implementation of workable transport policies that comprises all the various modes of transportation in Nigeria.
