{"id":348712,"date":"2025-10-13T01:04:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T00:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=348712"},"modified":"2025-10-12T20:28:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T19:28:50","slug":"gencos-debts-ndphc-commends-tinubu-over-n4tn-bond-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=348712","title":{"rendered":"Gencos&#8217; Debts: NDPHC Commends Tinubu Over N4tn Bond Approval\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Following the recent approval of a N4tn bond to clear the legacy debts owed to power generation companies, the Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Jennifer Adighije, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration\u2019s commitment to revamping Nigeria\u2019s power sector.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Recall that in July 2025, President Tinubu met with chief executives of all power generation companies, where he emphasised the need for patience from GenCos and financial institutions.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The President had also disclosed that government agencies were engaging audit and legal firms to scrutinise the N4tn debt claims.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said on Monday the president had approved a bond to defray the debts.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Speaking at this year\u2019s National Association of Energy Correspondent (NAEC) Conference in Lagos, Adighije described the president\u2019s approval as a landmark decision that would go a long way in restoring the financial health of the sector.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWith the funds available, we at NDPHC, given our unique mandate as the government\u2019s intervention entity in the power sector, plan to deploy a significant portion of these recovered funds toward converting our power plants from open-cycle to combined-cycle operations,\u201d she said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThis will not only enhance efficiency but also diversify our generation mix, aligning with Nigeria\u2019s energy transition plan,\u201d she added.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Adighije further noted that the power sector is currently undergoing a major transition, moving towards bilateral trading and the implementation of a cost-reflective tariff regime.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWhat this means for us is that we are beginning to see increased liquidity within the sector, which in turn is making it more bankable and attractive for investment.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cFor us in the power generation space, we understand that cash flow drives efficiency and sustainability.
