{"id":348169,"date":"2025-09-29T01:18:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T00:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=348169"},"modified":"2025-09-28T16:20:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T15:20:34","slug":"reps-cmitee-moves-to-resolve-dangote-nupeng-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=348169","title":{"rendered":"Reps C&#8217;mitee Moves To Resolve Dangote, NUPENG Dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The House of Representative on Petroleum Resources (downstream), has pledged to intervene in the ongoing dispute between Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), warning that mishandling the issue could destabilize the downstream sector.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Chairman of the Committee, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, gave the assurance at the close of a three-day retreat, in Lagos, at the Weekend.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ugochinyere noted that while Dangote and NUPENG signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 9 to strengthen workers\u2019 right to unionise, fresh disagreements have since emerged.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He stated that the committee had received multiple submissions from stakeholders adding that it would act in the best interest of both parties.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cIf the issue is not well handled, it will create instability in the downstream sector. We must balance labour issues with economic interests,\u201d he stated.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It would be noted that NUPENG had accused the refinery of intimidation, alleging it ordered truck drivers to remove union stickers before loading. Dangote, however, dismissed the claims describing it as \u201ccheap blackmail.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He also revealed that the committee has reopened its investigation into NNPC Ltd.\u2019s acquisition of OVH Energy Marketing\u2019s downstream assets and refinery upgrade, following a directive from the House after the initial report was rejected for omitting key facts.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The investigation is distinct from the previous inquiry carried out.
