{"id":347767,"date":"2025-09-12T01:30:29","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T00:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=347767"},"modified":"2025-09-11T18:33:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:33:07","slug":"criver-assembly-extends-bekwarra-lg-chairmans-suspension-by-3-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=347767","title":{"rendered":"C\u2019River Assembly extends Bekwarra LG Chairman\u2019s Suspension By 3 Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The Cross River State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of the Bekwarra Council Chairman, Ms. Theresa Ushie, to 90 days.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Elvert Ayambem, made the remark on Wednesday during plenary.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Tide&#8217;s source recalls that Ushie was suspended on June 10 for three months on allegations of corruption, misconduct and abuse of power.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The suspension followed a petition from the Bekwarra Local Government Legislative Council, signed by eight of its members, who also attempted to impeach her.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ayambem explained that the extension was to allow the House Committee on Judiciary, Public Service Matters, Public Petitions and Conflict Resolution more time to investigate the petition written against the chairman by the Bekwarra Legislature.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The House had earlier deliberated on a motion calling for the extension of the office of the LGA Acting Chairman, Mr. Egbung Obama, before agreeing to extend Ushie\u2019s suspension.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In his remarks, Chairman of the Investigative Committee and member, representing Abi State Constituency, Mr. Davies Etta, said the committee needed more time to carry out a thorough investigation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ushie was elected as Bekwarra Local Government Council Chairman and sworn-in in November 2024.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cross River State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of the Bekwarra Council Chairman, Ms. Theresa Ushie, to 90 days.
