{"id":328563,"date":"2024-03-06T05:24:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T04:24:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=328563"},"modified":"2024-03-06T05:24:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-06T04:24:52","slug":"dangote-names-120km-refinery-road-after-wigwe-as-guaranty-trust-celebrates-late-access-bank-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=328563","title":{"rendered":"Dangote Names 120km Refinery Road After Wigwe &#8230;As Guaranty Trust Celebrates Late Access Bank CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, has named the 120kilometre road leading to his refinery in Lagos after the former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Holdings Plc, late Herbert Wigwe, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the project.<br \/>\nThe announcement was made on Monday during a special event held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, titled \u2018Celebrating Herbert Wigwe \u2013 A Professional Legacy.\u2019<br \/>\nDangote paid tribute to the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, highlighting Wigwe\u2019s dedication and expertise.<br \/>\n\u201cTo immortalise my beloved friend, my brother and mentee, I\u2019ve actually decided to name our major refinery and petrochemical road out of the 120km road, the biggest road will now be named Herbert Wigwe,\u201d Dangote said.<br \/>\nOn February 9, Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba; son, Chizi; and a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, died in a helicopter crash that occurred near a border town between California and Nevada in the United States.<br \/>\nAlso paying tribute to late Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, Segun Agbaje, described him as someone who had what everyone in GTB lacked.<br \/>\nHe said Wigwe had the power to chase accounts, network and deliver things that others could not deliver.<br \/>\nAgbaje said he and Wigwe, founder of the Wigwe University in Rivers State, were both once in the corporate bank as he met him in November 1991.<br \/>\n\u201cI met Herbert November 1991. We were both in the corporate bank. This gentleman walked in, didn\u2019t take off his jacket because we all had our jackets on. Well, that was Herbert, he was going to do it his own way.<br \/>\n\u201cHe drove a red golf. Who drives a red golf? Only a man who\u2019s that brazen drives around in a red golf,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe described Wigwe as one of the cleverest persons in GTB which made him earn the bank\u2019s respect.<br \/>\n\u201cVery quickly, Herbert earned our respect. Herbert was one of the cleverest people in Guaranty Trust Bank. He was a credit analysts\u2019 analyst,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nSpeaking further and explaining what Wigwe had that no one in the bank had which made him distinguished, Agbaje said, \u201cBut that\u2019s not what got him his respect because we were all good analysts.
