{"id":320321,"date":"2023-08-09T04:05:19","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T03:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=320321"},"modified":"2023-08-09T04:13:20","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T03:13:20","slug":"senate-confirms-45-ministerial-nominees-withholds-el-rufai-others-over-security-clearance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=320321","title":{"rendered":"Senate Confirms 45 Ministerial Nominees &#8230;Withholds El-Rufai, Others Over Security Clearance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The senate has approved the appointment of 45 out of the 48 ministerial nominees submitted by President\u00a0Bola Tinubu.<br \/>\nThe nominees were confirmed on Monday evening after the upper legislative chamber concluded the screening of the candidates.<br \/>\nNasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State and two other nominees \u2014 Stella Okotete (Delta) and Danladi Abubakar (Taraba) &#8211; were not confirmed as the senate awaits security clearance about them.<br \/>\n\u201cThe others are still awaiting security clearance,\u201d Senate President Godswill Akpabio said, after announcing the names of those approved by the Senate.<br \/>\nThe Tide source had\u00a0reported\u00a0how Sunday Karimi, Senator representing Kogi West, presented a petition against el-Rufai during his screening last week.<br \/>\nA petition was also submitted against Okotete.<br \/>\nOn July 27, Tinubu\u00a0sent the list of nominees\u00a0made up of 28 persons to the Senate for screening and confirmation.<br \/>\nSix days later, the president forwarded additional 19 names to make the total number of ministerial nominees 47.<br \/>\nHowever, last Friday, Tinubu replaced Maryam Shetty, a nominee from Kano, with Mairiga Mahmud.<br \/>\nThe president also included Festus Keyamo\u2019s name in the list to make the nominees 48 in total.<br \/>\nSee the list of the nominees screened and confirmed by the Senate below:<br \/>\n1.
