Legal Practitioners in Rivers State have commended the State Government for providing\u00a0 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for\u00a0 effective and\u00a0 speedy Judicial\u00a0 services in the State.
\nA legal practitioner and former Chairman, National Copyright Commission, and current Director, National Legislative Institute, Abuja, Dr. Clinton Jaja, made the remarks while presenting a paper on the topic, \u201cHow to Use ICT for Legal Research\u201d, during the recent workshop for\u00a0 Magistrates in Port Harcourt.
\nJaja\u00a0 hinted that the State Government has commenced efforts to institutionalise ICT in the State Judiciary,\u00a0 beginning with the State Customary Courts.
\nAccording to him,\u00a0 the first phase of implementation has started with the training of staff and setting up of a digital library which makes it easy for judges and Judicial officers to deliver on their duties.
\nThe legal researcher also disclosed that after the trial period, the tool will be adopted across board.
\nAnother Lawyer, Gift O. Nyeche, said the introduction of ICT into Rivers State Judiciary system will put the state ahead others in handling matters.
\nNyeche noted that ICT has come to stay and that it amounts to a waste for any sector to operate without ICT tools.
\n\u201cICT will not only enhance service delivery, but will make\u00a0 Court processes and filings easier\u201d, he said.
\nOthers were unanimous in saying that the era of analogue judiciary system was hectic due to the stress accocaited with\u00a0 it.
\nThey also agree that ICT will eliminate some errors in filings in that such errors will be detected and authomatically corrected by the system.<\/p>\n
