{"id":30521,"date":"2011-10-17T12:56:28","date_gmt":"2011-10-17T16:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=30521"},"modified":"2011-10-17T12:56:28","modified_gmt":"2011-10-17T16:56:28","slug":"ph-residents-task-rsg-on-flood-menace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=30521","title":{"rendered":"PH Residents Task RSG On Flood Menace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some residents of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, have renewed their call on the state government to tackle the menace of flooding in the city.<br \/>\nObservers of event  reports that Port Harcourt is bedevilled by the challenge of perennial flooding.<br \/>\nSpeaking on the issue, a Port Harcourt-based transporter, Mr. Amenji Biobele, urged the government to re-double its efforts to ensure that the city was free of flooding.<br \/>\nMr. Francis Dokubo, who resides in a flood-prone area of the city, said that the problem was caused by the blockage of most of the water channels.<br \/>\nDokubo advised the state government to carry out a study on the various shanties and create water drainage systems.<br \/>\nAn environmentalist, Mr. John Oduku, while decrying the careless attitude of residents, noted that part of the challenge of flooding in the city was caused by the blockage of the gutters.<br \/>\nHe said that dumping of refuse into gutters was one of the major factors responsible for the perennial flooding in the city,<br \/>\nHe therefore called on the government to check the menace.<br \/>\nOduku also urged parents and guardians to advise their children and wards against such \u201c irresponsible and anti-social\u2019\u2019 behaviour of dumping refuse everywhere.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, the state government has inaugurated an interministerial committee to tackle the problem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some residents of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, have renewed their call on the state government to tackle the menace of flooding in the city.
