{"id":303394,"date":"2022-09-07T00:12:46","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T23:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=303394"},"modified":"2022-09-06T22:21:17","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T21:21:17","slug":"fg-trains-schools-staff-on-lab-equipment-repairs-maintenance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=303394","title":{"rendered":"FG Trains Schools\u2019 Staff\u00a0 On Lab\u00a0 Equipment Repairs, Maintenance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Science Equipment Centre (FSEC), Ijanikin, in Lagos State, under the Federal Ministry of Education, says it\u00a0 has\u00a0 commenced a two-day\u00a0 training for\u00a0 its staff on repairs and programme maintenance of science laboratory equipment.<br \/>\nStaff of the centre would\u00a0 be deployed to the\u00a0 110 unity schools across the country\u00a0 after their training to also train the members of staff of the\u00a0 schools on\u00a0 how to repair and maintain science laboratory equipment in their various schools.<br \/>\nThe Director of the Centre, Mr Yekini Ismaila, said this\u00a0 in his address at the opening of a two-day training programme organised for staff of the Centre at\u00a0 the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State\u00a0 recently.<br \/>\nIsmaila said the staff members\u00a0 from the centre\u00a0 would be expected to\u00a0 go round all the unity schools\u00a0 across the country to train the school officers on repairs and maintenance of their laboratory equipment.<br \/>\nHe said the training had been\u00a0 approved by the\u00a0 Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Andrew Adejo,\u00a0 and it is termed \u2018train the trainer\u2019.<br \/>\nAccording to him,\u00a0 \u00a0 it is to help the Federal Government to maintain existing science laboratory equipment in its unity schools\u00a0 and cut cost in buying new ones.<br \/>\nAccording tohim, the centre is currently facing several challenges which had impeded it from reaching its optimal performance, saying that the Permanent Secretary had been briefed about the challenges.<br \/>\n\u201cThe FG created the FSEC, through the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with\u00a0 UNESCO and UNDP to enhance the development of science in post-primary institutions,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe stated that due to dwindling revenue, allocation to the centre had suffered some setbacks and this had\u00a0 affected the free services\u00a0 it used to render to unity schools under its purview.<br \/>\n\u201cMost pressing issues in the world today are science based, and a well-managed science experiment centre has the capacity to not only transform a developing economy to a developed one, but also create endless opportunities to generate funds and be self-sufficient,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe continued that the centre would explore the production and fabrication of standard-science-school equipment, which it would sell at\u00a0 subsidised\u00a0 prices to other schools aside unity schools.<br \/>\nMeanwhile,\u00a0 he has hinted that the centre had also picked\u00a0 on the production of high quality chalk as\u00a0 a way of generating revenue in addition to\u00a0 commercialising its training courses which used to be free before now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Science Equipment Centre (FSEC), Ijanikin, in Lagos State, under the Federal Ministry of Education, says it\u00a0 has\u00a0 commenced a two-day\u00a0 training for\u00a0 its staff on repairs and programme maintenance of science laboratory equipment.
