{"id":296914,"date":"2022-06-13T05:48:19","date_gmt":"2022-06-13T04:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=296914"},"modified":"2022-06-13T07:16:03","modified_gmt":"2022-06-13T06:16:03","slug":"bayelsa-assembly-approves-oil-palm-plantations-establishment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=296914","title":{"rendered":"Bayelsa Assembly Approves Oil Palm Plantations Establishment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has passed a one-point resolution urging the state government to take urgent steps to establish three additional oil palm plantations.<br \/>\nThe Tide\u2019s source gathered that one each of the plantations will be in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.<br \/>\nIn addition, the one-point resolution also called on the government to resuscitate moribund plantations across the State.<br \/>\nThe resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Mitema Obordor on the need to establish three more state-owned oil palm plantations, one in each of the three Senatorial Districts of the State.<br \/>\nIn is motion, Obordor argued that the government\u2019s over-dependence on crude oil had had negative effects on the state\u2019s economy because of the price volatility of crude oil in the international market.<br \/>\nNoting that most sister-states in the South-South had taken concerted measures to improve their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through agriculture, he urged that Bayelsa should also prioritise agriculture.<br \/>\nAccording to him, despite the existence of the Bayelsa Oil Palm at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area, the State could still set up other oil plantations in the three Senatorial Districts to generate employment opportunities.<br \/>\nHe noted further that such business ventures could help stabilise the economy of the State and reduce the state\u2019s over-dependence its monthly federal allocations.<br \/>\nIn supporting the motion, Tonye Isenah harped on the timeliness of the resolution, saying the State needs to improve in its area of advantage.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s never too late to do the right thing. Aggressively harnessing areas of strength in the agricultural sector would help the State to achieve economic viability\u201d, he said.<br \/>\nAnother legislator, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, noted that the state\u2019s plantations were ageing and there was wisdom in establishing new ones for the economic growth of the State.<br \/>\nOther lawmakers who backed the motion were Charles Daniel, Bernard Kenebai, MacDonald Igbadiwei and Oforji Oboku.<br \/>\nThey all stressed the need for the government to also revive moribund plantations in the State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has passed a one-point resolution urging the state government to take urgent steps to establish three additional oil palm plantations.
