Some drivers at the Bonny,Bille Nembe Jetty have alleged that 10 bodies floated four days after the fire incident at the jetty which killed more than 23 persons.
\nA driver who simply gave his name as Fman told The Tide at the weekend at the jetty that 10 bodies floated four days after the fire incident.
\nHe also alleged that some bodies may have been lying at the river bed.
\n\u201cIt is not one or two, we counted the bodies as they floated on the river four days after\u201d
\nHe stressed the need for the government to set up a fire service station at the jetty as the incident could still re-occur.
\nAlso speaking with The Tide, The Chairman Nembe waterfront unit of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria,Emmanuel Clifford Dari, said 23 corpses were recovered on the first day of the incident.
\nHe said families came to identify the corpses for collection while some corpses were beyond recognition as they were burnt to ashes.
\nEmmanuel also regretted that the burnt boats were yet to be removed from the scene of the incident, adding that the situation is dangerous to their operation.
\nHe also regretted that most of the drivers are not safety conscious. \u201cThey are not safety conscious, they just bring boats and ply.\u201d
\nEmmanuel insisted that the only solution would be to run a fire service pipe round the Jetty as well as provide a fire fighting boat at the jetty, adding that the incident might occur again since they deal with fuel.<\/p>\n
