Amaechi Decries Drug Abuse Among Rural Youths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has decried youths and under-aged children\u2019s involvement in drug trafficking in rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Dame Judith Amaechi who made the assertion in a statement to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and IIIicit Trafficking said the involvement of under-aged children in drug abuse and illicit trafficking is quite worrisome and advised that campaigns be shifted to rural areas with youths as the target.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor\u2019s wife further stated that most rural communities have become drug trafficking routes whereby patrons make youths vulnerable to crime through involvement in the illicit trade.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, \u201cour rural communities have become a trafficking network for drug barons and patrons who have made youths in the communities vulnerable to crime and sometimes restive.<\/p>\n<p>The founder of the Employment Support Initiative (ESI) commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and United Nations effort at combating drug trafficking in the society and added, the crusade will be more successful if communities sincerely collaborate with these agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United Nation\u2019s office on drug and crime leads the international campaign aimed at raising awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent on our youths and the effect on the society, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency are doing their best to arrest the situation, the communities have not done enough because they have allowed their people and drug businessmen use their places as links to drug trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Amaechi while commending the federal government peace initiative in the Niger Delta region, called for a holistic approach in tackling drug trafficking among the rural communities especially within the coastline area \u201cwhile we commend the federal government peace initiative in the Niger Delta region, it should beam its attention on some of the causal factors of restiveness including drug abuse and trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She disclosed that her NGO the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) will collaborate with the relevant agencies in the crusade against drug addiction and illicit trafficking in rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>June 26th every year is marked by the United Nations as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>The Theme for this year\u2019s celebration is \u201cDo Drugs Control Your Life Community,
