{"id":253943,"date":"2021-02-10T00:36:31","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T23:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=253943"},"modified":"2021-02-10T00:36:31","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T23:36:31","slug":"nawoj-deputy-welcomes-risk-communication-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=253943","title":{"rendered":"NAWOJ Deputy Welcomes Risk Communication Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Deputy President of Nigeria Association\u00a0Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Lilian Okonkwo-Ogagbu, has said that the\u00a0establishment and inauguration of Risk communication clubs in schools in the state\u00a0was a welcome development.<br \/>\nOkonkwo-Ogagbu said this in a telephone chat with The Tide after the inauguration of Risk Communication Club in Schools in Port Harcourt recently.<br \/>\nThe Tide gathered that the event was anchored by UNICEF and other International bodies in partnership with Rivers state Government while NAWOJ national would serve as\u00a0Implementing Partner.<br \/>\nThe NAWOJ second-in-command noted that the aim of the inauguration was to enable victims and others to speak out in the event of any challenge.<br \/>\nShe said that part of the challenge of victims was how to ventilate their plights and added\u00a0that the inauguration of the Risk Communication Club in Schools in the state would improve the situation.<br \/>\nAccording to her, the inauguration of the club would also address the issue of high cases of abuse and violence against under age school children in the state.<br \/>\nShe further described\u00a0coronavirus pandemic era as worst, and hinted that victims and their abusers were locked down under same roof.<br \/>\n\u201cThe coronavirus pande-mic also made it worse and many victims were locked down with their abusers. And so there is need to galvanize efforts aimed at building champions and ambassador\u00a0that will carry the\u00a0van-guard of risk communication massages\u00a0 in and out of schools\u201d, she said.<br \/>\nAs an Implementing Partner, she said that NAWOJ has adjusted properly to enable it carry out the task of\u00a0training and educating students to imbibe the confidence\u00a0and self-esteem\u00a0to stand against\u00a0all social\u00a0vices.<br \/>\n\u201cIn this case, there is need to ensure\u00a0that public, private secondary\u00a0schools\u00a0in the 23 LGAs are well sensitised\u00a0and the children empowered with risk information on Riskcom,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nThe NAWOJAN who reiterated the stance of the group to stand against violence, said they would continue to push until violence against under age school children and others, nose dive.<br \/>\nThe Tide recalled that violence against under age people especially women\u00a0and girl child\u00a0was on the increase during the lock down period.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By:\u00a0King Onunwor<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Deputy President of Nigeria Association\u00a0Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Lilian Okonkwo-Ogagbu, has said that the\u00a0establishment and inauguration of Risk communication clubs in schools in the state\u00a0was a welcome development.
