When I met the President, he told me that he was under pressure to declare a state of emergency in the state.
“Through careful investment and policies, our security has improved tremendously. We are not there yet, but our people are largely safe. We are funding the security agencies, working with key stakeholders to sustain the peace”.
The governor added: “I am happy that we have exited that very ugly state of insecurity. We are making improvement. We have offered our people protection and security. We have been able to fight insecurity to a standstill”.
He said that the state government would continue to build the security framework of the state to ensure the state witnesses sustained growth.
The governor noted that the overwhelming infrastructural development across the state has been made possible because of the prevailing security in the state.
He said without security, it would have been difficult for contractors to work in different communities without molestation.
“Despite all our achievements, it is natural to still have a few critics. But my joy is that the overwhelming majority of our people are happy with us”, he said.
Wike said that his love for the people of Rivers State was boundless, noting that each passing day, he thinks of how to make the state better.
He said: “I know about this state comprehensively. I have been in governance from local government through the state to the federal level and back to the state.
“If people have confidence in you, you don’t abuse that confidence. The only way to do that is to wholeheartedly serve the people and provide their basic needs.
“I decided to invite prominent Nigerians from across political and traditional divides to commission projects because we wanted the world to see that our achievements and projects are not mere propaganda”.

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has stated that his administration has developed the security infrastructure of the state to the level that it protects lives and property across the state.
