{"id":183240,"date":"2018-08-17T03:31:51","date_gmt":"2018-08-17T02:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=183240"},"modified":"2018-08-17T03:31:51","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T02:31:51","slug":"notap-saves-n200bn-through-local-content-adoption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=183240","title":{"rendered":"NOTAP Saves N200bn Through Local Content Adoption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Director-General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, says the office has been able to save N200 billion through the adoption of local content.<br \/>\nIbrahim said NOTAP was able to achieve this through NOTAP refusal to approve the importation of technologies and services that could be rendered by Nigerians between 2010 and 2017.<br \/>\nHe made this known at a workshop on \u201cTechnology Development Initiatives\u2019\u2019 in conjunction with PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc in Abuja last Thursday.<br \/>\nAccording to him, 90 per cent of technologies being used in Nigeria today are still being imported and this does not go well with our economy.<br \/>\n\u201cTo checkmate this, we go through visitations to ensure that these companies that want to do transfer exist and most time we find out that they do not and this eliminates capital flight.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen such companies exist, we also make sure that competent hands that are there are used and this ensures that money is saved,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nIbrahim said the purpose of the event was to sensitise members of the private sector in particular to see the need on why they should expand their social responsibility to develop capacities and provide research infrastructure.<br \/>\nHe said this would bring about the evolvement of technologies in institutions, thereby giving youths the opportunity of being employable.<br \/>\nIbrahim emphasised the need for government to upgrade research laboratories in universities and research institutes to produce commercial-oriented research results and strengthen infrastructure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Director-General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, says the office has been able to save N200 billion through the adoption of local content.
