The success recorded by security agencies in Rivers State has been attributed to the\u00a0 invention\u00a0 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the country especially in the arrest of\u00a0 high profile persons.
\nAccording to a police officer serving in the\u00a0 state who pleaded\u00a0 anonymity made\u00a0 the revelation in an unofficial\u00a0 chat with The Tide, in Port Harcourt. He said without the birth of the ICT, many arrests in the country would have been abortive due to\u00a0 its complex nature.
\nHe explained\u00a0 how some\u00a0 high profile criminal\u00a0 elements try to\u00a0 block their access\u00a0 via the internet but could not due to the higher internet gadget available to the police.
\nAccording to him,\u00a0 the government\u00a0 should do\u00a0 more by training more officers and men in ICT handling\u00a0 in order to record more success.
\nThe officer\u00a0 noted that some top ICT operators are in the employ of some criminals who aid them in their ugly activities including defrauding unsuspecting\u00a0 members of the public via their Automated Teller Machine Cards (ATM).
\nIt was also revealed\u00a0 that those in the intellence\u00a0\u00a0 department of all security outfits in the\u00a0 federation, ought to do more on ICT training\u00a0 and to enable them beat the challenge ahead.
\nHe noted that the areas where crime was still evident were lacking in current ICT tools,\u00a0 saying that upon achievement\u00a0 of the\u00a0 tools, that the situation would be\u00a0 brought to normalcy.
\nThe Tide learnt that the police have tracked down one lady through the use of ICT\u00a0 gadgets\u00a0 who specialised\u00a0 in defrauding\u00a0 her clients under the guise of supplying sharp\u00a0 sand to them.
\nThe lady, The Tide further gathered was arrested when a top police officer posed as a\u00a0 customer and transferred huge amount of cash to her account,\u00a0 but blocked it online and was arrested in an attempt\u00a0 to do manual\u00a0 withdrawal\u00a0\u00a0 in\u00a0 the bank in Port Harcourt.
\nHe has also warned against granting of ICT\u00a0 licence\u00a0 to what he described as road side\u00a0 operators, saying they are the clog\u00a0 in the ICT world.
