Christ Academy International School, Gwagwalada,\u00a0 last Saturday, emerged the winner of the Macmillan 2010 \u201cTeam Spirit Day\u201d competition.<\/p>\n
Campus Insight\u00a0 reports that Stella Maris College and Loyola Jesuit College, took the second and third positions respectively among 45 participating schools.<\/p>\n
In an address, Dr Adesanya Adelekan, the Managing Director, Macmillan Nigeria Publishers, said that the programme was designed to demonstrate the value of partnership and team work in the overall development of the Nigerian child.<\/p>\n
The address was presented by Mr Olubukola Omisore, the Secondary School Coordinator of Macmillan.<\/p>\n
\u201cMacmillan Nigeria Publishers through this team spirit campaign is out to demonstrate our partnership relationship with the schools and parents in the overall development of education\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs front runners in the Nigeria publishing industry, we will continue to demonstrate leadership in the promotion of excellence and societal values,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Campus Insight\u00a0 also reports that the event took place simultaneously in 200 centres across the federation.<\/p>\n
Also speaking, Mr Olayinka Olaniyan, Macmillan\u2019s Executive Director in charge of Operations, regretted the spate of piracy in the publishing industry.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cevery year we experience it because they don\u2019t print in Nigeria again; they print in India, China and other places\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are doing is that we are collaborating with the Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) and also with the Customs to inform us of any imported books and they are doing very well\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause every book that comes into Nigeria; Customs inform the Nigeria Publishers Association (NPA), they (NPA) will go and verify if they are books imported by publishers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Olaniyan commended the assistance received from the police during raids and called on the judiciary to ensure speedy trial of cases brought against pirates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
