A total of 4,970 students matriculated at the 31st Matriculation Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
A breakdown of this number shows that Faculty of Management Sciences has the highest number of students at 1,052, followed by College of Health Sciences, which has 788 students.<\/p>\n
Faculty of Social Sciences has 488, Faculty of Engineering has 469 and Faculty of Science is 457.<\/p>\n
Others are Faculty of Humanities (355), Faculty of Education (226), Faculty of Agriculture (106) and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science (104).<\/p>\n
While welcoming the students to what he tagged \u201cthe only unique university in Nigeria,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the out-going vice chancellor of the school, Professor Don M. Baridam, urged them to abide by the dictates of the oath they took as part of the ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know the negative impact of reneging on oaths taken or pledges made on both your personal life and, indeed, your future career generally.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe oath is a seal on your status as bonafide students of the University of Port Harcourt. You must, therefore, apply yourselves to the rules and regulations of the university,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One way to do this, he explained, is for them to make conscious efforts to avoid negative tendencies \u201cthat debase the society and bring you and your family name to ridicule.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch anti social behaviours would inevitably bring you on collision course with both the authorities of the universities and the laws of our land\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 4,970 students who matriculated constitute the 5th set of candidates that have undergone the university aptitude test.<\/p>\n
Professor Baridam tenure as the vice chancellor of the institution expires on Saturday. He is the 6th vice chancellor of the institution.<\/p>\n
