A Grade A Customary Court in Mushin, Lagos,\u00a0\u00a0 fined a landlady N10,000 after she pleaded guilty that her house was in a poor sanitary state.<\/p>\n
The court president, Dr Abayomi Ipaye, said that as a result of the poor sanitary state of the building, the landlady, Mrs Dorcas Okeowo, endangered her tenants\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n
The Mushin Local Government Council had accused Okeowo, whose building is located at No. 2, Odunsi St., \u00a0Mushin, of failing to repair her dilapidated bungalow.<\/p>\n
The council\u2019s sanitation officer, Mr Raji Razak, said that the landlady did not repair the houses\u2019s cracked fence and that she passed a waste pipe through one of the rooms.<\/p>\n
Razak submitted that the offence contravened Sections 7 and 8 of the Lagos State Public Health Law.<\/p>\n
The 85 year-old landlady, who was represented by her son, Adeyinka, apologised for the poor state of the house.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cThe house is not constructed properly because the waste pipe passed through a room and constituted nuisance in the building\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cWe have given the tenant living in the room a quit notice to enable us to carry out the necessary repairs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The court president adjourned the case till June 29 to enable the affected tenant to appear in court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
