{"id":134966,"date":"2016-08-24T08:20:22","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T07:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=134966"},"modified":"2016-08-24T08:20:26","modified_gmt":"2016-08-24T07:20:26","slug":"fida-tasked-on-woman-child-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=134966","title":{"rendered":"FIDA Tasked On Woman, Child Protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wife of\u00a0 the\u00a0 Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, has called on women lawyers to partner\u00a0 with\u00a0 other women professional groups\u00a0\u00a0 to protect less privileged\u00a0 women and children\u00a0 in the country.<br \/>\nSpeaking\u00a0 as a Special Guest of Honour at the special session of the International Federation of Women Lawyers\u00a0 (FIDA ) during the ongoing 56th NBA National Conference in Port Harcourt yesterday,\u00a0 Justice Nyesom-Wike said such partnership\u00a0 will afford women groups the needed capacity\u00a0 to advance\u00a0 women rights.<br \/>\nThe wife of the Rivers State Governor who described\u00a0 the theme of the session: \u201cEnforcing Laws Protecting Women and Children : Issues and Challenges \u201c, as apt also called for the creation\u00a0 of\u00a0 awareness\u00a0 on existing\u00a0 gender protection\u00a0 laws, so that more women can take advantage of them.<br \/>\nShe said : \u201cI urge FIDA to do more for the less privileged\u00a0 women of Nigeria. I suggest\u00a0 that FIDA should work\u00a0 with\u00a0 other women professional\u00a0 groups to ensure that women\u00a0 rights are protected.<br \/>\nShe regretted\u00a0 that the responses to the violation of women by institutions have been disheartening, especially\u00a0 when victims courageously report cases.<br \/>\nShe also urged\u00a0 men to join the struggle for gender equality\u00a0 in the country.<br \/>\nIn her remarks, Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Adama Iyayi-Lamikanra called for more robust implementation of gender laws for the protection of\u00a0 women.<br \/>\nThe Head of Service of Rivers State, Barrister Rufus Godwins in a paper presentation\u00a0 advocated for stiffer penalties for sexual offenders.<br \/>\nNana Oyelithur, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection,\u00a0 Republic of Ghana , said\u00a0 that it is necessary\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 rights of women to be respected in the society.<br \/>\nShe said that Ghana has taken several strategic\u00a0 measures\u00a0 to advance the protection\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 rights of women and children.<br \/>\nCountry Vice President \/National President of FIDA, Mrs Inime Aguma assured that FIDA\u00a0 will always stand for the rights of women irrespective of the challenges.<br \/>\nThe session\u00a0 was attended\u00a0 by\u00a0 women lawyers\u00a0 from across\u00a0 the\u00a0 country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wife of\u00a0 the\u00a0 Rivers State Governor, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, has called on women lawyers to partner\u00a0 with\u00a0 other women professional groups\u00a0\u00a0 to protect less privileged\u00a0 women and children\u00a0 in the country.
