{"id":134,"date":"2009-06-24T02:57:41","date_gmt":"2009-06-24T06:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=134"},"modified":"2009-06-24T02:57:41","modified_gmt":"2009-06-24T06:57:41","slug":"needs-n50bn-for-amnesty-package","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetidenewsonline.com\/?p=134","title":{"rendered":"&#8230;Needs N50bn For Amnesty Package"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government needs about N50billion for the implementation of its proposed amnesty for militants in the Niger Delta.<br \/>\nThe Minister of Interior, Major General Godwin Abe (Rtd) said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, at the end of a meeting with the Inspector General of Police , Mr Mike Okiro and representatives of some militant leaders.<br \/>\nThe minister also said that the government will not single out any particular individual in the region for the amnesty.<br \/>\n\u201cAmnesty is not directed at a particular person, it is directed at all Nigerians, all militants in the Deltan region, who felt aggrieved and have participated in militancy in the pursuit of genuine agitation towards the development of the states.<br \/>\n\u201cThey are the ones who are our focus. No individual is isolated, he said.<br \/>\nAlso speaking, the inspector general of police, Mr Okiro said that amnesty could be guaranteed to anybody who is convicted .<br \/>\nHe also said that the  Federal Government is not under any pressure from militants to grant them amnesty.<br \/>\nAlso speaking, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, the  lawyer to the leader of the Niger Delta Vigitante\/Niger Delta Patriotic Forces Ateke Tom described the proposed amnesty as very genuine.<br \/>\nHe also said that the meeting was highly successful, assuring that the message will be taken back to Ateke Tom.<br \/>\nBarrister Enekweizu also described plans by one of the militant leaders in Ogoni axis, Mr solo Alias \u201c Usama Bin Laden\u201d to turn in his arms on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government needs about N50billion for the implementation of its proposed amnesty for militants in the Niger Delta.
