No fewer than 50 houses were destroyed by rainstorm in Makarfi local government area of Kaduna State.\u00a0 \u00a0Our correspondent reports that\u00a0 the rains which started at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, lasted for more than an hour. \u00a0 Our\u00a0 Correspondent observed during a visit to the area that many people were left homeless. \u00a0 Similarly, the rain\u00a0pulled down\u00a0a number of electric poles while the MTN network in the area was also disrupted. \u00a0 Areas hit by the disaster included Bayan Gidan Gwamna, Gazara Road, Tudunwada and other\u00a0outskirts\u00a0of Makarfi Town. \u00a0 The Sada Primary School and Malam Dantine Islamiyya School were not spared by the storm. \u00a0 Some of the victims, Malam Bello Gwaram, and Hajiya Mandiya Kari, said that the rainstorm\u00a0completely destroyed their\u00a0 houses. \u00a0 They called for the assistance of the government, NGOs and good spirited individuals. \u00a0 When contacted, the council Chairman, Alhaji Audu Bala-Gangara, said the council had held\u00a0an emergency meeting on the matter. \u00a0 \u201cWe have met and deliberated on the matter.\u00a0 The council has formally informed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for quick intervention. \u00a0 \u201cWe are also appealing to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to our aid because the situation requires multiple approaches,\u201d Bala-Gangara said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
