The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has said that GSM masts and towers do not possess features that could cause cancer as speculated.
\nThe Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau of the NCC, Mrs Maryam Bayi said this at the 77th edition of a consumer outreach Tuesday in Kano.
\nThe Tide source gathered from Bayi that it has been scientifically proven that both towers and masts are not harmful as speculated.
\nShe said the information became necessary in an attempt to disabuse peoples mind over the issue which she said has deeply settled in the peoples mind.
\nAccording to her, research conducted by World Health Organisation (WHO) and other technical research institutes are yet to give a negative answer.
\nShe noted that all telecom equipment coming to Nigeria are being type-approved by the agency, with a view to ensuring compliance with global standards on health and safety.
\nConcerning other challenges facing subscribers in the country, she said Mobile Number Portability (MNP) was introduced to handle some of such issues.
\nThe NCC boss explained that the service was initiated to enable subscribers port to other networks of their choice without losing their original number.
\nAccording to her, the commission was still working on the project to ensure that it succeeds.
