The Registrar, Surveyors
\nCouncil of Nigeria (SURCON), Surveyor Wiston Ayeni, has called on the Federal Government to digitise the surveying department of its ministry.
\nHe made the appeal in an interview with newsmen last Friday in Port Harcourt.
\nAyeni said the call became necessary after considering the high spread of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) advancement in the country.
\nHe reasoned that any profession that was still operating manually would not meet up with the current challenges in the system.
\nThe SURCON boss reasoned that without digitised system the needed result would not be achieved on time.
\nAccording to him, manual production has become obsolete and could not withstand the modern and digitised system used globally.
\nHe explained that with such system that he could produce the accurate map of Rivers State within few days, but may find it difficult to do same with analogue tools.
\nHe also called on the state government to introduce ICT in their surveying departments in a bid to achieving better results.
\nThe seasoned surveyor challenged the upcoming generation to work harder so as to match their counterparts across the globe.
