Mr Kingsley Chikezie, Secretary of\u00a0 Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), on Wednesday called on the Federal Government to always invove them when formulating trade policies.<\/p>\n
Chikezie made the call in Lagos at\u00a0 the two-day sensitisation seminar for importers and other stakeholders in the maritime industry.<\/p>\n
The seminar was organised by the Federal Ministry of Finance\u00a0 and has\u00a0 the theme: \u201cBuilding The Capacity Of Stakeholders To Enhance Service Delivery Under The Destination Inspection Scheme\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
He said that the inclusion of IMAN in\u00a0policy formulation\u00a0would enhance\u00a0implementation of those policies\u00a0since the policies were meant for importers.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cThis will in addition, facilitate smoother policy appreciation, implementation and responsible partnership,\u2019\u2019 the IMAN Secretary said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0According to him, private sector entities like\u00a0MAN,\u00a0NACCIMA and other organisations would\u00a0 offer useful \u00a0inputs during\u00a0trade policy making processes.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Chikezie said that such inputs could be provided through\u00a0their membership of ministerial committees and through\u00a0pre-budget memoranda.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201dHowever, we have observed that importers are never called upon or listened to when trade policies that concerned members are being made.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201dLittle wonder that in the past we encountered a lot of problems when implementing trade related fiscal policies.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201dWe are also excluded from membership of certain trade related boards of parastatals or agencies,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
