Rivers Judges Commence Annual Vacation, July 20
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has announced that the annual vacation for judges of the High Court of the state will commence on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Justice Chibuzor-Amadi made this known in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
According to the statement, the annual vacation is in line with the provisions of Order 49, Rule 4(D) of the High Court of Rivers State Civil Procedure Rules, 2023, as altered.
The Chief Judge explained that the vacation period is intended to provide judicial officers the opportunity to undertake official recess and attend to administrative responsibilities.
It stated that all judicial divisions of the Rivers State High Court would remain closed throughout the duration of the annual vacation.
Justice Chibuzor-Amadi, in the statement, however, assured litigants and members of the public that adequate arrangements had been put in place to ensure that urgent judicial matters receive prompt attention.
The statement noted that any urgent matter filed during the vacation period would be entertained by designated vacation judges.
It further explained that such vacation judges would be appointed by the Chief Judge to guarantee uninterrupted access to justice where necessary.
The Chief Registrar stated that the arrangement was designed to prevent delays in cases requiring immediate judicial intervention.
The Chief Judge through the statement, added that despite the temporary suspension of regular court sittings, the judiciary remained committed to efficient and effective service delivery.
The statement further indicated that court activities across all judicial divisions would resume at the end of the vacation period.
Accordingly, full court proceedings are expected to recommence on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, when judges return from the annual recess.
