Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced three suspects to death by hanging over the murder of a pharmacist, Muenalo Sunday.

The three suspects are Confidence Kirinee, also known as General Illa; Precious Mona, and Soniabari Sagha.

The judgment was delivered by Honourable Justice Augusta Chukwu in Port Harcourt, last Friday.

The court also convicted another suspect, Loveday Legah, and sentenced him to life imprisonment for belonging to a secret cult group whose activities led to the murder of the pharmacist.

Kirinee, Mona and Sagha were sentenced for conspiracy, cultism, kidnapping, and murder of Sunday on March 5, 2019, in Zaakpo Community, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The court held that the prosecution proved the charges against Kirinee, Mona, Sagha, and Legah beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge ruled that confessional statements and evidence showed that the suspects, members of the Iceland secret cult, conspired, kidnapped, and murdered Sunday.

According to the court, Sunday’s head and other organs were severed, and his remains dumped in a pit, while his head was taken to a shrine in a bush.

Counsel to the convicted persons declined comment on the judgment, but the prosecution counsel, Precious Ordu, commended the judge, and described the judgment as thorough.

According to him, the judgment represents justice.

The deceased’s wife, Pretty Neewa-Sunday, expressed happiness, saying the judgment will allow her late husband’s soul to rest in peace.
