The Rivers State Police Command said it has fixed today to mark the 2026 National Police Day, placing strong emphasis on rebuilding public trust and deepening community partnership across the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, made this known in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, in Port Harcourt recently.
According to the statement,  this year’s celebration, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” was  designed to foster stronger collaboration between the police and residents.
The Command in the statement noted that the initiative is not only to commemorate the contributions of officers, but also to give back to society through people-oriented programmes that promote safety, unity and mutual understanding.
It further noted that the week-long activities will commence  with a statewide sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise aimed at promoting a healthier environment.
This will be followed by a medical outreach programme to provide essential healthcare services to members of the public, particularly underserved communities.
“On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Command will organise a walkathon for peace and public safety, which will take off from the Police Headquarters, along Moscow Road, and terminate at Isaac Boro Park”, it said.
The walkathon, the Command explained, is intended to symbolise unity and collective responsibility in fostering a peaceful and secure society.
The statement revealed that activities will continue on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with a community engagement and sensitisation programme focusing on the dangers of electoral violence and the need to embrace safe driving practices.
The Command further stressed that the programme is crucial in educating citizens on their roles in ensuring peaceful coexistence and reducing avoidable road accidents.
On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the Police will honour fallen heroes through the presentation of cheques to families of deceased officers, in recognition of their sacrifices in the line of duty.
The statement described the gesture as part of ongoing efforts to support bereaved families and uphold the welfare of police personnel.
“The grand finale of the celebration will hold on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical display”, it said.
While inviting members of the public, stakeholders and community leaders to participate actively, the Command reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and sustained peace in Rivers State.
