The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of the paramount ruler of Agwut-Obolo Town in Andoni Local government Area, HRH Alfred Etete Otuobalama by unknown gunmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, who confirmed this to The Tide last Saturday, said the Police are working to unravel those behind the killing.

King Otuobalama was reportedly killed last Friday in his house at Agwut-Obolo Town some minutes after he arrived from his Portharcourt residence to attend the burial of his fellow traditional ruler of Agana community, late Ebiriene Agana.

The Tide learnt that the late King was preparing to go and receive the remains of his late colleague at the headquarters of Okwan-Ijah Divisional Council of Traditional Rulers in Agwut-Obolo Town, when he was  assassinated at about 2pm.

The incident created fears in the community leaving many of them leaving the community for safety.

However, the Andoni Local Government Chairman, Mr Promise Lucky Otuo, has called for calm, saying the  Council has detailed the security to fish out the killers and restore normalcy to the community.
