NOA Urges A’Ibom Residents On CVR Participation
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Akwa Ibom State has called on residents of voting age in the state to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to enable them to vote in future elections.
The State Director of NOA, Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, made the call, on Thursday, when he visited the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Obi Effanga, at the INEC headquarters in Uyo, the State capital.
Mkpoutom urged the people to participate in the CVR as a civic responsibility, emphasising its importance for inclusive governance.
According to him, in every democratic society, the right to vote is fundamental and empowers citizens to elect their leaders, who reflect their hopes, needs, and aspirations.
“One of the key components of this process is CVR, which is designed to facilitate the inclusion of eligible citizens in the electoral process.
“We use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal to civil society organisations, community leaders, the media, and the public to support INEC in its efforts in the CVR”, Mkpoutom said.
Earlier, Effanga said the visit provided a platform to strengthen the existing partnership and collaboration between the two agencies.
He commended NOA for its efforts in mobilising citizens for active participation in the ongoing CVR.
He also lauded NOA for constantly creating awareness in the state on key issues that promote peace and development through its programmes.
He said the CVR was essential for every adult of voting age, as it provided the opportunity for new voters to register and participate in the electoral process, which is crucial for a representative democracy.
Effanga further explained that the exercise was also for those whose details were now outdated due to various factors, including demographic changes and the passing of registered voters.
“The CVR ensures that the register remains accurate and reflective of the current population, and it enhances civic engagement”, he said.
