NCSU Set To Hold 113th Anniversary, SEC Meeting In PH

The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the umbrella body of civil servants in the State, is set to hold its State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, and commemoration of the 113 years of the union’s existence. The union will also use the event to officially welcome GovernorSiminalayiFubara back to office after the emergency rule in the State.It will equally celebrate the Governor for being exceptionally good, caring and supportive to the state workforce.
The two-day programme, themed, “Navigating Economic Challenges: Strengthening Union Solidarity and Members’ Welfare,” will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 and Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Main Conference Hall, Ministry of Justice, State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt.
His Excellency, Sir (Dr) SiminalayiFubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour, while Comrade Chukwuka Richman Osumah, the State Chairman of NCSU, serves as the Chief Host.
The 113th anniversary celebration and SEC meeting will feature two main sessions — the business session and the plenary session, bringing together key leaders and members of the union to deliberate on issues affecting the civil service, workers’ welfare, and strategies to strengthen solidarity amid current economic challenges.
Among the national and state officers expected at the event are Comrade(Prince) Oluwole Adeleye Sunday, the National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union; Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, the General Secretary of the union;
Comrade Chukwuka Richman Osumah, State Chairman; and Comrade Agenyi Ameh Allen, the Senior State Secretary/Council Secretary of the union; among others.
The plenary session will begin with the arrival and accreditation of members, followed by the arrival of dignitaries, including the Governor of the State.The event will also feature keynote address by the National President of the union, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday; and solidarity messages from labourleaders including Comrade Opuyibo T. Lilly-West, Chairman Emeritus, NCSU, Rivers State Council; Comrade
EmechetaChuku, the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council,Rivers State Council; and Comrade
(Dr) Josiah Udeoka, the Chairman of the Trade Union Council(TUC), Rivers State Council.
Governor Fubara is expected to declare the anniversary open, while
symposium/paper presentation on the event’s theme will be anchored by Assistant General Secretary/Head Of Department, Administration and Establishment, NCSU National Headquarters, Abuja, Comrade Dan Otakpo.
The business session will focus on internal union affairs, including welcoming by the union of the newly inaugurated Ministry of Youth and Empowerment Unit; and filling of the vacant position of Unit Chairman in the Office of the Governor Unit.
As the union braces for this epoch-making occasion, it extends special appreciation to Governor Fubara for his “resilience, wisdom, and unwavering support to Rivers State civil servants,” reaffirming the union’s commitment to continued partnership and solidarity with his administration.
The 113th anniversary celebration underscores the union’s long-standing legacy of advocating for workers’ rights, welfare, and unity, even as it reaffirms its resolve to navigate economic challenges through collective strength and purposeful leadership.
