Perm Sec Bags Award Of Excellence
A non-governmental organisation, known as Coalition of Niger Delta Think Tank has bestowed a “Gold Award of Excellence” on the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. HonourSirawoo.
President of the group, OpoliAlisebh, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the permanent secretary in his office said that the award was in recognition of DrSirawoo’s commitment to information gathering and dissemination,especially in the area of Sports writing and editing.
Alisebh who described the permanent secretary as an icon of Sports and Information and Communications said the history of Sports journalism in Rivers State cannot be complete without a mention of the role played by the permanent secretary.
“Today marks a significant milestone in the history of Information and Communications as well as Sports development in Rivers State with an award of excellence and proficiency in the discharge of duty conferred on icon of Sports, Information and Communications.”
He said Dr. Sirawoo had contributed immensely to information gathering, processing and dissemination, Sports writing and editing as well as Sports development in Rivers State, making him stand tall among other permanent secretaries.
“Sir, it may interest you to know that you have also made significant milestone in the area of of grassroots Sports in Rivers State through your special method of Sports reporting”, he said.
The Coalition president appealed to the Ministry to reactivate all information offices at the local government areas to ensure proper enlightenment of the people at the grassroots.
He said his group would soon embark on sensitization campaign against anti-social behaviours in the society such as cultism, indiscriminate dumping of plastics along the coastal areas, illegal oil bunkering, drug abuse among others, and called for support.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, DrHonourSirawoo thanked the group for the honor done him.
Dr. Sirawoo who was represented by the Director of Publications, Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Christian Nelson Davies, urged the group to sustain its activities, especially against cultism, pipeline vandalism.
He said the Ministry under his watch had not only reactivated information offices in the local government areas but had also opened a website for information dissemination, stressing that the ministry’s activities is now accessible across the world.
