The National Deputy Chairman of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Andrew Unchendu, says if the elite and professionals have been involved in politics in Nigeria, Rivers State would not be in its current state. He expressed this view when the Steering Committee of the Rivers State Liberation Movement paid him a familiarization visit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to him, “I want to use this opportunity to assure Rivers people that they will have a better tomorrow with the people I have met today. There is a possible alternative that we will get a better Rivers State.”

Senator Unchendu noted that from 1999 till date, real professionals have not been involved in politics in Rivers State, Nigeria. He stated, “This young men and women have taken a back seat, but for the first time, I have created a credible platform for them.”

He emphasized that the platform is not a one-man show but a collective effort to prioritize the interests of Rivers people. “A better future for Rivers State is where the interest of Rivers people will be the interest of the people, not just people who prefer to be leaders but for the people, the citizens.”

The Convener of the Steering Committee of the Rivers Liberation Movement, Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, stated that the movement is poised to bring necessary change to Rivers State, which has been in darkness politically and economically. He added that the ADC will provide an opportunity for young men and women to participate fully in the democratic process and take back the state from those who have kept them marginalized.

Dr. Nwibubasa said, “We are ready physically and financially to support ourselves and the people of Rivers State to achieve this vision of liberation.
