RSIEC Set To Conduct Hitch-free LG Polls

The Chairman, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr. Michael Odeh, has said the Commission will do all within its power to ensure that the Local Government Council elections will be hitch-free and also set a model for democratic governance in the state.

 

Odeh said this during an interactive session with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, yesterday.

 

He pointed out that RSIEC would provide a level-playing field for all political parties and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections.

 

While appealing for Civic Education, he called for more attention at the rural areas in order to put them on notice about the upcoming elections.

 

“The meeting will strengthen our relationship with the CSOs in the areas of Voter Education. CSO is the voice that amplifies Voter Education. infact, its role can’t be overemphasized”, he said.

 

Also speaking, the RSIEC Commissioner-in- Charge of Budget, Statistics, Research and Training, Prof. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira, said that the budgetary allocation for the smooth conduct of the elections had been provided.

 

Torbira pointed out that the printing of non-sensitive materials and logistics have been handled.

 

“We have held meeting with all stakeholders. Training of field officers and others have been done”, he said.

 

Meanwhile, the leader of the groups and organizer of the programme, Issac Green, has reassured the Commission of their support in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
