RIVERS LG POLLS: CHAIRMANSHIP CANDIDATE APPLAUDS RSIEC AS EX-SSG COMMENDS SOLAD
The Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State local councils’ elections, Hon Confidence Deko, has said that last Saturday’s election is one of the best elections he had experienced in his years in politics.
He said that the peaceful conduct of the election by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has rekindled hope in the country’s electoral system.
While exchanging views with journalists after casting his ballot at unit 17, Ward 11 Bodo in Gokana Local Government Area, Hon Deko said: “This is one of the best elections I have experienced in my years in politics and so I hope and pray that the process continue this way”.
When reminded that some people were not in support of the election holding, he said we are in a world where everybody cannot agree on one thing at the same time, saying that what was important him was the massive support the APC was getting in Rivers State.
He commended the people of Gokana for their peaceful disposition during the election process, adding that if elected, he will not fail to deliver on his campaign promises.
“The reason why they are in support of us is that the promise we made during campaign time we are going to ensure we bring it on board”, he stated.
Meanwhile, one time Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Hon Kenneth Kobani, has commended the Rivers State Sole Administrator for putting the right person in the right position at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
“I think we need to commend RSIEC for what they have done, it is a new and improved RSIEC.
“I don’t know how they did it, but I think, perhaps it’s the nature of the person serving in the RSIEC this time.
“I can not explain it but may be we should commend the Rivers State Sole Administrator for selecting people who are capable of the job.
“So there is no contention in my Local Government Area. The big parties decided on who they wanted to support and they are supporting the person, so there is no much issue in my LGA.
“The major parties are working together in Rivers State because they have realized that democracy is more important to the people at the grassroots”, Hon Kobani said.
