The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Chief Tony Okocha as the authentic Chairman of its Rivers State chapter, quashing media reports that suggested otherwise.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described claims by Chief Emeka Beke to the chairmanship as “false and misleading.”

Mr Morka urged party members and the public to disregard any reports recognising Chief Beke, insisting that Chief Okocha remained the duly recognised leader of the party in Rivers State.

“The attention of the All Progressives Congress has been drawn to media reports of a claim by Mr Emeka Beke to the Chairmanship of the Rivers state chapter of our Party. We wish to clarify, for the record, that Chief Tony Okocha is, and remains, the Chairman of the Rivers state chapter of our Party”, the statement read.

This comes amid rising political tension in Rivers State, where party leadership has long been a flashpoint in the state’s turbulent political landscape.
