KTF Holds Catch Them Young Free Tennis Clinic, in PH
Kodian Tennis Foundation ( KTF) has commenced its Free annual Catch Them Young Tennis Clinic last Monday , at the Port Harcourt Club 1928, tennis section.
The ongoing clinic have over 200 participants from age ranges from four to 12. This training is intensive and impactful.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by a large crowd that saw parents and people from all works of life in attendance.
It was characterized with fun, most especially seeing Coach Monday Izomor, popularly known as “coach talk to me” displaying so many fitness styles that thrilled the children.
Speaking, shortly at the event, on Monday , at the Port Harcourt 1928, Tennis Section, the coordinator of KTF , Madam Stella Epegu, said the foundation aim and objective was to engage children meaningfully at their tender age and to promote tennis, also discover talents from the grassroots.
According to her, the Idea was conceived when militancy was at its peak in the Niger Delta Area, precisely in 2007.
” I want to say that the birth of KTF in 2007 was when militancy in Niger Delta Area was at its peak. That year there was so many killings and cult rivalries, so that gave me the vision and passion.
“Then I said told myself if our youths can hold gun and shoot very well without training, that means they can equally play tennis very well without training, all these was with the view to promote tennis and catch them young, as it was tennis that brought me to where I am today.
“As I speak the foundation has produced tennis players that have represented the State and Nigeria in international tournaments, besides, some have become professional tennis players outside the country “, She said.
Also speaking, Coach Izomor, advised the coordinator to also register her players to play national competitions to enable them get exposure.
He further expressed satisfaction the way and manner the children conduct themselves, besides having the zeal to learn.
” I am really happy with what the coordinator, Madam Epegu is doing, honestly the vision was a laudable one.
” I will be happier seeing these children become champions at various levels, because what I am seeing here is quite impressive.
” My advice was that the coordinator should always register them to compete in national competitions”, Coach Izomor said.
