POA’ll Help Provide Citizens With Reliable Means-FG

Federal Government of Nigeria says the Local Government Proof Of Address (POA) system is aimed at providing every resident with a verifiable and secure address.
Speaking during the South- South geopolitical zone stakeholders sensitisation meeting for the activation and implementation of the Local Government Proof Of Address system last Thursday in Port Harcourt, the Director of Political and Constitution Matters, in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federal (OSGF), Mrs Helen Gapriya said that the POA will help and provide citizens with reliable address crucial for various administration, financial and legal purposes.
According to her, the POA system will enhance government planning, bolstering national security and contribute to a more orderly society. She also added that it will help combat criminal activities, reduce social vices and stimulate economic growth.
Mrs Gapriya said that the initiative of POA aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s hope agende designed to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
“The successful implementation of the project will be a cornerstone of Nigeria’s national development agenda,” she said.
Also speaking, the National President of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Bello Lawal said that the POA system will be very helpful in terms of the security of the people and knowing people around you and what business they do.
Hon Lawal who was represented by the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Aniefiok Nkom said that POA system will improve the development of the people by planning.
He explained that POA system will benefit the local people by giving them employment and security for the common man.
“Is a way of creating employment among our people. In some many places, people come in without people knowing them but with the help of Proof of Address system, people will be known including their address,” he said.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Rivers State, Dame (Dr) Itong Awani said that the stakeholders meeting of the Proof Of Address in Rivers State is a welcomed development because it will help to know people resident in any of our localities in Nigeria.
She explained that the meeting is very important because it has enlightened them on the POA and how it will work and the modalities to put in place to ensure it works.
“We are going to follow the laid down rules to ensure the programme works. You know that our Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara is a people-friendly Governor who has the people at heart, so, he will key in the POA system. With this POA system and with what I have heard from the meeting, it is going to help everybody get identified and where they are residing,” she said.
