NCAA Explains Impending Ibadan Airport Shutdown
The regulatory agency in Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said the Ibadan airport will be shut down for six months to enable the commencement of maintenance and upgrade works.
A release from the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the agency, Mr. Michael Achimugu, on his X handle said the shutting down of the airport from this month (March) will enable the upgrade and maintenance work at the airport.
“Subject to new information, Ibadan airport may be shut down for six months for maintenance/upgrade, starting from early March”, Achimugu said.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu in June 2024 approved the move to upgrade the Ibadan Domestic Airport, Alakia, to an international airport.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who disclosed this to newsmen, noted that upon completion of the airport upgrade, which include the expansion and extension of the runway and the general upgrade of the facilities, the state will begin to receive international flights.
Also in January 2025, the Governor stated the construction of the new international terminal as part of efforts to upgrade the facility to international standards.
