Health Commissioner Tasks New Employees On Professionalism
The Rivers State Commissioner for health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, has tasked new employees in the state Hospital Management Board to display the highest standard of Professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The commissioner said this during a one-day orientation for newly employed staff of the Rivers State Health Management Board in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Oreh said Governor Siminalaye Fubara’s vision in the healthcare sector cannot be realized without their inputs.
The Commissioner also urged them to count themselves lucky to be among those selected for the employment among a crowd who applied for the job.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Mekele C. Igwe, commended Governor Fubara for employment into the health sector of the state.
She also urged the new employees to put in their best with the view to advancing the sector.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Rivers State Hospital Management Board, Dr.Bright Ogbonda, said over 27000 persons applied for the job, adding that they must count themselves lucky to be among those employed.
He said they must not only thank God, but also Governor Fubara for deeming it necessary to employ them.
The CMD further commended the Governor for approving the remodelling of all zonal hospitals in the state, approval for procurement of equipment for all General Hospitals in the state, and the regular support for the board.
Also speaking, one of the keynote speakers, Professor John Ikimalo, urged the newly employed staff to be abreast with ethical issues in the discharge of their duties.
Professor Ikimalo, who spoke on “Ethical Considerations in Healthcare provision”, also urged them to respect patient autonomy .
Some of the new employees, who commended Governor Fubara for giving them a sense of belonging, said by giving them employment the Governor has shown himself to be a friend to the people.
