Cultist Escapes Mob Action In Benin City
The leader of a notorious cult group, Eiye Confraternity in Benin City, Edo State, simply known as Sam narrowly escaped being lynched by an irate mob along the Third East Circular Road of the city after he led some of his members to attack a social gathering at the weekend.
Trouble started when the gang of cultists stormed the group’s meeting, harassing and threatening them with dangerous weapons with the aim of dispossessing them of their valuables.
However, unknown to the cultists, there were members of the street’s vigilante group around the area, who promptly surrounded them. Moments later, a mob built up around the cultists and accused them of causing mayhem and holding the area to ransome for more than 10 years.
As the mob was about to lynch the cultists, the leader of the gang began to appeal to them and confessed to many atrocities committed by his group, especially, the near-killing of one Feraboy Scott, eight years ago, who lived at Number 169 2nd East Circular Road.
According to the people at the scene, Feraboy Scott was one of the victims of the gang who was almost killed in 2017 after the leader of the group found out that he was dating a certain Jennifer. Jennifer was said to be the leader’s ex-girlfriend.
“In March, 2017, the said Jennifer was traced to the house where Feraboy Scott lived and the cult members descended on him, beat and stabbed him multiple times with knives and bottles. They inflicted severe life threatening injuries on the victim, leaving him for dead. The victim was rushed to Suyi hospital along Murtala Mohammed Way, 3rd East Circular, Benin City, where he battled for life for more than one month.
‘On discovering that Feraboy Scott survived the ordeal two months after, the gang leader and his men continued to haunt him, promising to finish him off once and for all, despite the matter being reported at the Zone 5 Police Headquarters, Adesuwa Road, Benin City.
‘The threat from the cult group continued to hang on Feraboy Scott since that fateful day until he quit the city and has not been seen till date,” said one Benjamin Lucky, one of the neighbors at the scene.
The cult leader and his members were eventually spared the mob treatment at the weekend as they were whisked away in an unmarked van by security men that arrived the scene before the mob could finish them off.
