Arrest Of Suspected Land Grabber: Rivers Community Calls For Justice

The Elikpokwuodu Community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has called on the judiciary to ensure that justice is done in the arrest of one Jude Moro over land grabbing in the community.
They also urged the Rivers State Police Command to desist from assigning its officers to accompany land grabbers to the community.
It would be recalled that Jude Moro who is currently in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre was arrested and arraigned at the state High Court over land grabbing activities in the community.
Speaking with newsmen the head chief of Elikpokpodu community, chief Achinike Mmecha said time has come for the government and the various security agencies to ensure that the community is free from trouble makers to avoid a break down of law and order.
“We want all the authorities to put eyes on Elikpokpodu community and not when they kill somebody, they will come and setup a commission of inquiry
“Now that they are fighting, they should do the needful.We want the DSS to come to know what is happening,we also call on the civil society organisations to come, even the human rights to look into the affairs of the community so that we can sleep in peace “
Chief Mmecha said with the arrest of the alleged kingpin,it beholves on the judiciary to act within the ambit of the law so that peace can return to the community.
“Now that they have arrested the architect, let the court do the needful so that so that those threats that have been going on can stop
“So let the needful be done to save our lives”he said.
Also speaking, an opinion leader, Dike Josiah called for the arrest of all the culprits involved in the land grabbing activities in the area.
He also urged the judiciary to look into what is happening in the community.
“I want to appeal to the judiciary that they should allow the rule of law take its course. The land grabbers should be made to face the wrath of the of the law,” he said.
Also speaking, Chief Opara Ebere said the community has recorded some peace since the arrest of the alleged kingpin.
“We are also appealing to the judiciary to do the needful so that other land grabbers will see as a deterrent not to come to grab our community land. We want to appeal that the police should not be given to them,” he said.
