Monarch Asks Speculators To Avoid Minama Settlements
The Amayanabo of Minama Clan under the Kalabari Ethnic Nationality, HRH. Iboroma T. Pokubo has asked land speculators in the Cawthone Channel Area of Rivers State to avoid Minama territories.
The Minama monarch who was responding to newsmen over recent developments in the Cawthone Channel Area said that the boundaries of the various settlements and their owners are clear and unmistakable.
He however noted that because of the massive oil and gas activities in the area, all manner of claims and encroachments are done by some communities, especially the Bille people without shame.
“We have noted how Bille Community claimed ownership of some of our settlements, including Dabara”. He said, noting that apart from first clearing, naming and occupying the place, there is a natural boundary yet, the Bille people encroached on Dabara.
The monarch said that Minama had held her peace over Dabara for years because they expected the matter to be addressed by the white paper on the Bille/Ke crisis where the matter was eminently handled.
King Pokubo said that Minama has the highest number of settlements in the Cawthone Channel Area by reason of her earlier emergence and dominant influence in the area.
He said that Minama has up to 30 settlements, including Namgbolo Amapiri, its first headquarters in the Cawthone Channel Area. Adding that nearly all their settlements are inhabited, some by tenants.
He further called on the Rivers State Government to call the Bille Community to order and advise them to steer clear of all settlements belonging to the Minama Clan and other Kalabari towns and allow peace to reign in the region.
He congratulated, the Amayanabo of Torusarama Piri, King, Alhaji, Dokubo Asari on his recognition by the Rivers State Government and urged him to do all it takes to ensure peace of the Cawthone Channel Area and facilitate business, especially fishing in the area.
