Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged officials and swimmers using the renovated Olympic-size swimming pool, a training swimming pool, and other upgraded sporting facilities at Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, to maintain them like it’s theirs.
The upgrade facilitated by Lagos State, under the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF), and in collaboration with the private sector and the generosity of Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, he said, marks a new era for aquatic sports in Lagos.
The Governor’s representative, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, noted that the Olympic-size swimming pool, which is the third of its kind in Lagos, is a testament of the good works Sanwo-Olu is implementing in the state.
“This space is a beacon of health, fitness, community engagement, and a testament to our shared vision of creating opportunities for our youth, promoting active lifestyles, and fostering a culture of excellence in Lagos State.
“The reconstruction of this Olympics swimming pool alongside the warm-up pool and 250-seater spectator stand is a bold statement of our resolve to promote physical well-being, nurture talent, and create a space where individuals of all ages can come together to learn, to grow, and to thrive. Swimming is not just a sport. It is a life skill that offers immense physical and mental health benefits.” he said.
Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu further praised the Gov. Sanwo-Olu for his immense support to the sports commission. He urged that the facilities be well managed and catered for.
We have handed over this facility for the development of this community, therefore let us ensure that it is well managed and catered for, treat it like it is your own.”
Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Mr. Olaposi Agunbiade noted that the body is keen on finishing the other projects ongoing at the Rowe Park and will soon be ready for launching.
The event featured a swimming exhibition witnessed by representatives from the headline sponsor, The Lagos State House of Assembly, Chairman Youth and Social Development, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, athletes, parents, and other stakeholders.
