Speaker, Delta Assembly urges NUJ to check quacks
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Dennis Guwor, has urged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to check the rising number of quacks in the profession.
The Speaker said this during the presentation of award of ”The Most Outstanding Stewardship in Legislative Business”, to him by the Delta NUJ Council.
Guwor, who decried the menace of quacks in the media profession, urged the council to do what it could to address the issue in order to bring sanity and credibility to the profession.
‘’The NUJ must strive to make sure that it does its best, most especially in terms of ridding the media profession of quacks”, he said.
Guwor also stressed the need for the media to always balance their reportage for credibility purposes.
The Speaker, however, commended the council for the award, adding that he would not have achieved what he achieved without the support of his colleagues and my constituents.
”This award will spur me to work harder”, he said.
The Council led by its Chairman, Churchill Oyewe, said it was particularly pleased with the quick resolution of the dispute that led to the suspension of two lawmakers by the House.
Oyowe said the suspension of Mr. Dafe Chukudi (PDP-Ukwuani) on November 6 and Mr. Oboro Preyor (PDP-Bomadi) on November 12 and their quick recall on December 17, 2024 showed his dexterity as a Speaker.
