Unpaid Arrears: Health Workers Threaten Showdown In Ikwerre LGA

Primary health workers in Ikwerre Local Government Area have threatened a showdown with the council over their unpaid promotion arrears.
The Tide learnt that the workers were being owed promotion arrears.
According to a resolution made available to newsmen at the end of their meeting at Omagwa, the workers are demanding the payment of nine months promotion arrears accruing to both junior and senior health workers of the council.
They also demanded the proper implementation of Senior Primary Healthcare workers promotion which financial benefits became effective from first of June, 2023.
Speaking with newsmen at the end of the meeting, Chairman, Primary Healthcare Workers Union in Ikwerre local Government Council, Comrade Igwe Dominic, alleged that healthcare workers in the Council have been denied and deprived of their statutory rights.
Dominic said while other local government workers have been paid their full promotion entitlement, the health workers have been denied of their rights.
He also alleged that healthcare workers were being denied several professional allowances and stressed the need for the intervention of the state government on the matter.
He said the workers were yearning to hear from the Executive Chairman of the Council who is their employer.
Also speaking with newsmen, the Secretary General, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Nnaj Alexander Nduka, urged the state Primary Healthcare Management Board to intervene in the matter.
He also urged for immediate implementation of consolidated healthcare salary structure.
When contacted, an aide to the council chairman, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said the chairman has scheduled a meeting with the health workers, adding that the meeting will address all the issues raised.
