Upgrade KenPoly To University, Group Urges Fubara
A sociopolitical group in Rivers State, the Vanguard of Ogoni Nation, has appealed to the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to upgrade the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, to a model university status.
The President of the group, Prince Reuben Favour, made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, recently.
Favour noted that virtually all the universities in the State are situated in the Rivers East, hence, it is high time other higher institutions were cited in Rivers South-East Senatorial District, for both political and economic advancement of the area.
He called on the Rivers State House of Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, sponsor a bill for the upgrading of the polytechnic to a university status.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that the upgrading of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, to a university status will expressly help to boost the economic development in Ogoniland and Rivers South East, being the senatorial zone the Executive Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, comes from.
“Sequel to this, I therefore call on members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, do well to send a bill that will lead to quick acceleration of approval for proper implementation of upgrading of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic to a university”, Favour stated.
The Ogoni-born politician also urged Governor Fubara to continue his good work in Ogoniland and the Rivers South-East in general.
